Honest question, at what point did the Corvette go from muscle car to sports car? You have a C5Z06 which I would consider a sports car but the older ones clearly lacked refinement for the track. Any thoughts?
I would say with the fourth generation (1984). That when the chassis was refined and suspension tuned for twisty roads and not so much stop light-to-stop light speed. The body was designed considering aerodynamics and technology played a greater role. Just my opinion.
Always been a sports car. They raced them at Lemans almost from the get go. Probably more of a perception thing because a lot of owners drove them better in a straight line.
All a matter of perception….I had an 84 vette, it and anything after 67 are derided as NOT a real corvette, by the elitist vette owners.
True, it was sorely underpowered, but Mine had the Z51 pkg, so I could out handle and one of those fkn snobs!! 🙂
